Build in Unreal

AI that writes C++, wires Blueprints, or drives the Unreal Editor directly. Since Unreal Engine 5.8, Epic ships its own MCP plugin, so most of these now plug into the engine the same way.

Best for Connecting any AI model to your Unreal project

Epic's official bridge between AI models and the engine. It exposes Blueprints, assets, levels, materials and meshes to whatever model you connect, including Claude and Gemini. It is marked Experimental, so commit or back up your project before letting an agent loose.

Best for Learning how Unreal wants something done

Epic's own AI helper, grounded in Epic's documentation. It is strongest at answering questions and drafting snippets, not editing your project, so think of it as a tutor next to a coding agent rather than a replacement for one.

Unreal, UEFN

Best for Driving the running Unreal Editor from Claude Code

An official Epic plugin that connects Claude Code to the editor's MCP server and teaches it Unreal conventions. Install takes one command. It gives the agent broad live access to the editor, so keep it on a project under version control.

Free plugin (Claude Code plan required)

Aura

Ramen VR

Best for An agent that builds, launches and tests its own work

Works in both Blueprints and C++, and can launch the game to check its changes instead of stopping at code. Since absorbing Coplay it covers Unity too. One catch: the unlimited Auto Mode requires you to allow training on your chats.

Price
Indie $10/mo billed yearly ($20 monthly). 2-week free trial
Works with
Unreal 5.4–5.8, Unity 2022.3+

Ludus AI

Ludus AI

Best for Blueprints, C++, VFX and behavior trees with whole-project context

A plugin that reads your whole project, so its Blueprints call your own classes and sounds instead of placeholders. You approve each change before it lands. The free account has no credits, so plan on the trial or a paid plan.

Price
Pro $25/mo or $20/mo yearly. 14-day trial (card required)
Works with
Unreal 5.4–5.8 (Windows, macOS, Linux)

Claude Code

Anthropic

Best for Deep C++ work across a large codebase

Cursor

Anysphere

Best for Unreal C++ inside an AI code editor

An AI-first code editor that many Unreal developers use for C++. It works with community and official Unreal MCP servers, so it can reach the editor too, but out of the box it only sees the code you open.

Characters & animation

Tools for characters that move and talk: webcam motion capture, AI-assisted posing, and NPCs that hold a conversation.

Convai

Convai

Best for NPCs that talk back with voice, memory and perception

A hosted character platform with an Unreal plugin, so you attach conversation to existing NPCs instead of building an LLM pipeline. Every generated line costs money per player, and Steam requires you to describe your guardrails for live AI content.

Best for Full-body and face mocap from a single webcam

Meshy

Meshy

Best for Props and characters from text or an image, rigged if needed

Text or image to 3D with texturing, auto-rigging and an animation library. Its free tier is unusually usable for a shipping game: assets are CC BY 4.0, so commercial use is allowed if you credit Meshy. Paid plans make assets fully yours.
